We're just too "nice". When the power cuts kick in and nobody can watch the box, we'll forget how to be nice, and - with a bit of luck - the subdued will wish to take it out on those they perceive (hopefully rightly) to be responsible. We need a Cromwell type figure to galvanise. But it's a slow game with us Brits...
